Jazz at the Centre - Worth Valley Hot Seven & Ruth Gardziel

Hi Everyone,

And in the blink of an eye we arrive at the last concert of the 2025/26 Winter Season of Jazz at the Centre. This month the band is the Worth Valley Hot Seven with Ruth Gardziel on vocals. The band is leader is Mark Croasdale on Trumpet. Mark is instrumental (no pun intended) in ensuring that our kind of jazz continues to be played and performed. He works hard to run the Leeds Jazz Club which is held at the Mainline Social Club in Leeds (LS13 4LS) every Tuesday evening. It's £8 admission (students are half price) with bands starting at 8pm.

If you like your jazz in the traditional style then this is the very band for you. Don't be shy, come along and have a toe tapping evening out. The band line includes some of the usual suspects in the form of myself on Banjo/Guitar and Dave on Clarinet/Saxophone along with Mark Croadsale (Band Leader / Trumpet / Vocals), Eugene Farrar (Trombone), Jonny Clapham (Double Bass), Bill Evans (Drums) & the lovely Ruth Gardziel (vocals).

Can I also take this opportunity to thank you all for coming along each month. Music is always a two way path between the bands and the audience and this just reinforces our line of "We can't do it without you" so once again thank you so much for your support. Which leads me onto . . .

We need to try and grow the audience a bit more so that we can be confident to book bands that you might not have seen before. This comes with a greater financial risk hence more bums on seats are needed. If you have any ideas about how to get the word out and more importantly get people to leave the TV & the internet behind for an evening then please drop us a line or have a chat on Friday evening. All of this takes time and commitment over and above playing (which you know we all do quite a lot of) to keep the music being heard by the people who regularly come out to jazz clubs. So perhaps you fancy helping out with promotion? I'll get down off my very low soap box now!

As normal the concert is being held at Darfield Community Centre, Illsley Road, Darfield, S73 9AL starting at 8pm. Entry is still £7.50 on the door, no need to book in advance, and there will of course be the obligatory raffle.

The Community Centre bar will be open for drinks and there will be the regular complimentary teas and coffees in the interval.
